I don’t know about you, but the cost of fabric softener and dryer sheets are out of sight. Especially if you want to keep your clothes soft and smelling amazing for more than just a few days. I am sure you’re probably familiar with our homemade laundry detergent, so we figured we would show you a simple way to make never ending dryer sheets. Here is a simple solution that is super easy and will save you a TON of money!

This is what you need:

  • Container with an airtight lid (I used one from the cupboard)
  • 4 sponges cut in half ($1.00 for a 4pk at the dollar store)
  • 1 cup of your favorite fabric softener ($0.30 worth of fabric softener)
  • 2 cups water (free from my sink)

This is how it works:

Mix the water and your favorite fabric softener into a plastic container. Add the cut sponges into the container so that they can soak in the mixture thoroughly.

When you are ready to use, simply squeeze the excess liquid from one of the sponges and place into the dryer with your wet clothes. Run the dryer cycle as normal. Once the cycle is complete, place the now dry sponge back into the container of liquid for next time. Your clothes will smell good, super soft and will have no static just like the expensive non-reusable dryer sheets. What more could you as for?

I love experimenting with different scents as I go and the best part is, I will never have to put dryer sheets on my grocery list again! Try the above method the next time you do laundry. I made the easy switch and I will never go back!

Another inexpensive alternative to dryer sheets that I have used and shared for many years. Take a piece of T-shirt material, about the size of a washcloth. Wet, squeeze out excess water and pour about 2 T of fabric softener on the cloth. Rub together to work softener throughout cloth and toss in dryer. The more you use it, the less fabric softener you have to add. IF you ever get a greasy looking spot on a satin type clothing item…it is only excess fabric softener from the wet cloth laying on the clothing item. Will rinse out with water – No Problem.

I really like this idea. I normally don’t buy fabric softner. I could handle clothes smelling good.
