I’m not sure if you missed the memo or not, but unicorns are currently all the rage. Or maybe they just never lost their cool. Either way, these easy unicorn planters don’t disappoint.
I love all things unicorn and these unicorn planters were exactly what my desk needed to add a pop of color and a tinge of glitter. We all know everything is that much better with glitter, right? If you are a fellow crafter you probably already have most of the materials needed but if not, there’s not much to get.
You can transform your borning terra cotta pots into these super fly Unicron planters for cheap! Here’s how:
Materials:
- 1 terra cotta pot and base
- White acrylic paint
- Black acrylic paint
- Paint brushes – one for details and one general painting one
- Glitter – I prefer the extra fine glitter
- Decorations – I used tulle and silk flowers. Rhinestones would be super fun too!
- Hot glue gun
- Glue
- Foam sheets – 1 white and 1 pink
- Potting Soil
- Cactus
- Sealer (optional but recommended) I use Mod Podge or a spray sealer.
Paint your pot and base white. While the paint is still dry, sprinkle it with glitter. Paint dries really fast on terra cotta so you will have to work in small sections.
Once your pot is completely covered in glitter, spray with your sealer (if you are using one) and set aside until it is dry.
The fun part! Decide how you are going to decorate your cute little unicorn planter. I did one with just tulle and one with tulle and flowers. If you are going to use flowers, smaller flowers are the easiest to work with. Rhinestones would be another fun idea to try!
Cut out two ear shapes of white foam. Out of the pink foam, cut out two inner ears and glue to the center of the white foam ears.
Hot glue your unicorn ears to the inside of the pot where desired.
Hot glue your decorations on and using a fine tip brush, paint on the unicorn’s eyes and lashes.
Once the glue is dry, fill your unicorn pot with potting soil and add your cactus horn. Be careful, don’t get poked!
Tada! Your easy unicorn planter is complete.
These unicorn planters help add some pizazz to any area of your house, office or make the perfect gift idea.
What are you waiting for? Let’s get started!
