How to get Mildew Smell out of Towels Quickly

How to get Mildew Smell out of Towels Quickly

It’s that time again. Summer is coming to an end. And if you are like us, than your towels probably got a good workout. Wet and used towels lying around can give off a nauseating smell. Often enough, the smell is caused by mildew that sets in after use, and isn’t very easy to get rid of. Washing your towels a few times on normal settings may get rid of those yucky odors, but if normal washes aren’t enough to combat the mildew smell, we have found an awesome way to get your towels back in shape and get to get that unpleasant smell out quickly. Heres how:

1. Place your smelly towels in the washing machine and fill with the hottest water possible. Add in 2 cups of white vinegar and let them soak for at least 30 mins. Do not add any other products (detergent, softener etc.). This will allow the vinegar to penetrate the material without interference.

2. Run a full cycle after your towels have soaked in the vinegar water. Leaving towels in the washer repeat step 1, but using baking soda instead of vinegar. Run a full cycle once again.

3. Dry the towels on hottest setting possible until they are fully dry. Or dry half way and place in the direct sunlight for the remaining time.

Your towels will be like brand new! No more nasty mildewy smell. Before you try this awesome DIY, check your washer to see if any of the odor is in the washer itself. That’s no good! If so, run the washer with hot water and 2 cups of bleach (no laundry). This will clean out any smells that are already in the water and collects at the bottom of the washer in between cycles. YUCK!
