The Power of Makeup! For Those Who Just Don’t Get it….

Jun 18 by 8 Comments

So I am going to show you something that most people around me have never even seen before. Me without makeup! Gasp! It might not sound like a big deal, but I am “one of those” that never leaves home without it. And it really makes me sad that makeup has such a bad wrap. Makeup is clearly a choice. I don’t wear it to hide or to change who I am. I wear it because of the way it makes me feel. But we will get into that in just a second. So here it is, my #nomakeup, #nofilter, #selfie.

no makeup

Ok, now that THAT is over… Let’s talk about the power of makeup. So many people think that women wear it because they are insecure or they don’t love themselves. I beg to differ. Now I can’t speak for everyone, but I can tell you the reason why I wear makeup and it’s neither of those.

makeup for those who don't get it

I wear makeup because it’s the one and only thing I do for myself and it makes me feel good. I don’t go get manicures or pedicures. I don’t go get weekly massages or have a Bingo night. I wear makeup because I can go in the bathroom and have 10 minutes of just me time. My time to reflect on the day. At some point between rolling out of bed and stepping out the door, we all perform some sort of ritual of grooming. Mine just involves makeup!

makeup

Now don’t get me wrong. I also wear makeup because it makes me feel so much more empowered and confident. As many of you know, I work in the media. I cover a lot of press events and I get to meet a lot of really cool people. Makeup gives me that extra boost of confidence that I wouldn’t have without it. Sounds superficial? Well it’s not! To me it’s more of a mind over matter. People wear certain clothes because they are comfortable or they love the way they look. Makeup is the same for me. I am still the same person.

before and after

Do what makes you feel good. Don’t wear makeup because you feel obligated to do so. Wear makeup because you enjoy it and because of the way it makes you feel. To me, makeup is a form of art and expression. Feel free to express yourself!! There are no rules when using makeup. Try out new techniques and wear it proud.

Needless to say, you are beautiful whether you choose to wear makeup or not. Don’t judge other’s for their choice.

We drive the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 to the Great White North, where we say goodbye to a rather tumultuous 2020. 2020 has been a year for most of us, huh? So happy to get rid of it and here’s to hoping 2021 is better in every way! Of course, we say this with the […]

Great Smoky Mountains National Park: Family Road Trip In the 2021 Chevy Tahoe

A large and rugged country requires a large and rugged vehicle. Luckily, we’ve always loved family road trips, […]

Can I first say that you do NOT need makeup! You are just naturally gorgeous! I have to agree with you on your view of makeup. I also wear makeup because it’s my “me-time” and makes me feel confident, kinda like a good pair of jeans or high heels on girls night. What a great post dear! 🙂

I love your advice – wear make-up because you want to, not because you feel you must! I’m someone who just feels it’s a chore. (Must say, I thought both selfies were lovely though!)

I am certainly one of those that never leaves house without makeup either. Although listening to a sermon today, I got kind of convicted about how often I wear it and what the bible says about it, but let’s just say I’m a work in progress, but I find that even just a little bit can make me feel a little more put together.

I work from home, so I don’t wear a lot of make-up every day. When I do wear it, I definitely feel more confident!

I like how yours is not overdone, I like to wear mine that way, too. I have the world’s worst skin so for me, it’s all about hiding all of my many issues as best I can.
