2017 Lexus RC F – Dreaming Underneath the Stars
We often have the opportunity to drive cars which serve as perfect “point A to point B” methods of transportation. But then we’re also rewarded with opportunities to enjoy vehicles which are much more than that. Cars that fuel our imagination, and even allow us to teach young ones about chasing their dreams to see them come to fruition.
The 2017 Lexus RC F is one of those machines. This isn’t our first time behind the wheel of this high-power, luxury coupe, and you can click here to read and watch our initial encounter, which was truly unforgettable. For our second rodeo with the Lexus RC F we wanted to do something different, something outside of the ordinary photo shoot or video. That’s why when the opportunity to drive out to the country and take photos in the middle of the night came up, we just went for it!
The Design
There are many things that can be said about the Lexus RC F. After all, it’s a 467-horsepower, rear-wheel drive luxury coupe that turns heads everywhere it goes. If anything, too much can be said about one’s experience behind the wheel. But what about the experience outside the car? Yes, like most beautiful sports cars, the experience begins from outside the machine, where the driver and passenger can drool at the design before entering the cabin.
This was especially noticeable as we sat on a stretch of closed-off country road under a clear and starry midnight sky. It was there that the kids and I (along with our photographer) were able to appreciate the thousands of hours that went into designing the RC F’s chiseled and muscular body. Whether it was the strong glow of the moon, or the LED light panels we used for our photo shoot, the light rays depicted a work of art rather than a car.
The Challenge
Just as the Infrared paint dazzled us with its metallic flakes coming to life under the lights, we talked about the challenge it must’ve been for the designers to produce a sporty and aggressive design that didn’t clash with Lexus’s understated persona. After all, most of the “L” badged vehicles once leaned toward conservative luxury and not strong attitudes.
It’s these challenges to create something beautiful, and something worthwhile like the RC F that I tried to explain to the kids. Oftentimes it’s easy to go with the flow and lose our identity, therefore becoming average in many ways. That’s not what the RC F stands for, and that’s not what we should teach our upcoming generations of designers, engineers, teachers, doctors, etc.
The Outcome
Driving the Lexus RC F is a special experience. The way the engine’s torque pushes you back against the exquisitely-crafted leather seats, the sound that emanates from the 5.0-liter V8 engine, the way the brakes make the blurry become stationary again. But, on top of all those things, the RC F experience is best appreciated from outside the car, under the stars, and while thinking of the challenges that had to be overcome.
Even better, the RC F experience is that of perseverance, love, and not giving up.
