5 Reasons Why We Love the 2017 Volvo S90
The S90 sedan is Volvo’s new take on Swedish luxury on wheels. We previously had the opportunity to drive its SUV sibling, the 2017 XC90, and we went as far as calling it the “pinnacle of family transportation.”
With jaw-dropping looks, a sumptuous interior, and a heavenly driving experience, the new S90 hopes to bring much-needed new blood to the luxury sedan segment dominated by the Germans. Furthermore, the S90 T6 Inscription boasts a plethora of family-friendly features that leaves others in the dust.
Without much ado, let’s find out the five things we loved most about the 2017 Volvo S90!
Family-Friendly
Family friendliness was one of the biggest reasons why we fell in love with the XC90, and just as we expected, those same characteristics are found in the S90. Features like seatbelt sensors for every occupant allow you to make sure the kiddos are buckled up without having ask them, or look back. Simply glance at the driver’s display in front of you.
Built-in sun shades do a perfect job at keeping the blazing sun out of the rear cabin, and are perfect for long road trips or in-town adventures alike. Lastly, a button conveniently located by the driver’s window switches allows mom or dad to activate or deactivate the rear door’s child lock — all at the touch of a button!
It’s Swedish Chic
Very few vehicles are so visually pleasing they can be considered “fashion accessories.” While I’m not one for wearing the latest fashion, Missi is, and certainly many luxury sedan buyers. Aside from the stunning exterior design, the multi-spoke 20-inch wheels, and the gorgeous seats, the entire cabin resembles a modern and luxurious home. In fact Volvo calls it a Scandinavian sanctuary.
Oh, and speaking of chic, even the key fob resembles the cabin’s wood trim!
Safety
If Volvos are known for one thing, and one thing only, it’s their safety. The S90 has performed remarkably well (as we expected) during routine Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash safety tests, and was even named an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Powerful yet Efficient
For most luxury buyers, acquiring a 4-cylinder motor doesn’t sound too appealing, after all, most of the segment utilizes 6, or 8-cylinder engines. Don’t worry, because the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder motor in the S90 pumps out an impressive 316 horsepower, which is enough to propel it from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Furthermore, we averaged an impressive 25 mpg combined average during our week-long test. Smooth, efficient, and powerful!
Overall Package
Missi and I asked each other if we preferred the XC90 over the S90, and funny enough we both disagreed (what else is new?). While I fell victim to the charm and character of the S90, she preferred the extra room and ride height of the SUV. In the end, that’s what makes the S90 T6 Inscription so incredible. Volvo has taken the recipe from a wildly successful vehicle and applied to another, therefore making it equally as impressive.
As Ferris Bueller once said, “It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”
