Daith Piercing for Migraines: Two Month Update

Oct 19 by 1 Comment

Migraine-Piercing

Is the headache piercing everything it’s cracked up to be? Here’s my two-month update:

Out of complete frustration and exhaustion coming up on day 3 of a full-blown migraine, I decided enough was enough. I found a local tattoo parlor that specializes in the Daith Piercing and decided it was now or never.

Well, it’s been two months and I wanted to give you my completely honest update.

Read my two-week update here.

Today marks exactly two months since getting the Daith Piercing for migraines and so far, it’s been pretty great. Now, for complete disclosure, I’m not even close to being migraine-free like I have heard so many others say after being pierced. I’ve officially had five migraines since getting the Daith piercing.  But, that being said, I’ve had one… five migraines in two months – which is huge. I’m used to suffering from several migraines a week, so having one every couple of weeks is a big deal.

As far as the actual piercing goes, that too has been better than I anticipated. It doesn’t hurt and the only time it feels uncomfortable is when I really hit it or bump it somehow.  There hasn’t been any sort of infection, no redness or swelling. There is, however, a crust that gets built up and needs to be removed in the mornings and usually again by the afternoon. Yep, I went there. I told you I would keep it real.

Sleeping on it is uncomfortable but I can imagine that’s normal considering the given four-month healing time. I can feel a bit of soreness when I wake up if I happened to sleep on it for an extended amount of time. Thankfully, that is getting better with time. I’m actually considering piercing the other side – just to see what happens.

Also, you have to take care of yourself.

My most recent migraines have been direct results of my own actions and lack of self-care. My daughter’s 15th birthday was a couple of weeks ago and I stayed up the night before to decorate the house in decorations so that she would be surprised when she awoke. The next night I stayed up until wee hours of the night (morning) with and her friends eating junk food only getting about three hours of sleep… Only getting six hours of sleep in two days was a recipe for disaster resulting in one of the worst migraines I’ve experienced in a long time. Taking care of your body is a huge piece of the puzzle.

So, there it is. My two-month update on my Daith piercing. If you have any questions be sure to post them below and I will get them answered as soon as I can!
