Preheat oven to 275
Salt dough is so much fun! There are literally 1000′s of things you can make with this dough. Great idea for saving your kids’ art work, making homemade gifts, decorations and so much more. We chose to use cookie cutters and make some fun shapes for our Christmas tree. Get creative! There are no rules.
To make the handprints roll dough out into the desired shape. (Be sure counter is floured) Flour hand and press firmly into the middle of the dough. BAM! You have your child’s handprint forever. So cute and easy! Grandparents would love to have this hanging on their tree!
You can make so many different shapes, sizes, styles, themes… The girls love Mickey and Minnie so we decided to try a few and see how they would turn out. They came out perfect!
We used a pencil to poke holes in the top of our ornaments. Make them a little bigger than you would like it. As they bake they do shrink a tad.
Bake at 275 keeping an eye on your ornaments. The time will depend on the thickness of your dough shapes. The handprint had to bake for about 2 hours, while the smaller shapes took less than an hour.
Paint using any type of paint. We have an overabundance of nail polish, so that’s what we chose to use. I’m all for using your resources. Think cheap!
We put a little bit of fishing line through the small hole and hung a few of them on the Christmas tree. The rest we will give as gifts. Looks great! Be sure to send me your pictures! I would love to see them!!
