Dollar Shave Club!

Dollar shave club

Being a man comes along with a perks, like not having to give birth and not having a “time of the month”, but there are a few trade-offs. One of them is: shaving. Shaving is something that you really want to do when you are a little boy because it looks cool; then you grow up and realize… its expensive and it sucks. Thankfully, two guys from Venice, California hated the cost of shaving so much that they decided to do something about it, and Dollar Shave Club was born.

Personally, I’ve always been a fan of DSC (Dollar Shave Club) commercials, as they are funny, sarcastic and represent the truth. Also, I’ve used Gillette razors forever and thought Id never jump ship, but Im glad I did because it just makes sense.

The way I see it, this has always been the mathematic formula for shaving:

– Better shave + New razors = spend $$$$$$$$

– Bad shave + dull razors = you can afford to pay rent this month

– It shouldn’t be this way!

My life is now simpler now with DSC. I receive a box in the mail every month, it includes everything I need to shave and I don’t have to worry a thing. All do is open the box, pop in a new cartridge and I’m ready to shave!

The Product:

The razor that DSC kindly sent me for review is the “Executive” model, which is their nicest, and at $9 per month it is also their most expensive offering. In my experience the executive offered me the same quality shave, if not better as my Gillette Fusion, the only difference I noticed is in the life of the blade. This model has six blades that offer a smooth and close shave while lasting me about 6 to 7 perfect shaves. The Gillette offered me more shaves, but I believe thats where the beauty of DSC kicks in.

While replacing a blade on my old Gillette felt like it required a burial ceremony because of the amount of money I was throwing away, with DSC I actually felt empowered and relieved that I NO longer had to put up with dull blades because I’m cheap! The monthly cost of the razor includes 3 to 4 extra cartridges… wait what? Never in my life have I used 4 cartridges in 4 weeks, what am I, a Roman Emperor?

Pop a new blade and enjoy a great shave, thats what DSC has allowed me to do!

Full disclosure: Though I was given these products in trade for my honest review, I am now paying for my own DSC products such as the “4X” $6 per month razor, and the amazing shaving butter which I highly recommend if you have dry or sensitive skin.
