I am so in love with these heart shaped rice treats. They are so easy to make plus they are super cute and perfect for Valentine’s Day. You can even make them for your loved one “just because”. Not only are they cute to look at, but they taste great as well. There are a couple of different ways you can make these. Here’s how:
Ingredients
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups rice cereal
Red food coloring
All of which I found at the dollar store… SCORE!
In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted.Add red coloring until you achieve desired shade. Add rice cereal and mix well until fully covered. Leave mixture on a warm heat setting.
Lay out a cookie sheet and cover with wax paper. Here’s where you can make heart shapes in one of two ways. Or both if you would like. I used a cake pop heart shaper for mine. You can get them at pretty much any major retailer or on amazon. They are cheap and easy to use.
Place a small amount of rice treat mixture into the mold and press firmly until both sides touch. Trim off any extra that might be hanging out.
Open carefully and pop out your heart shaped treat. Yep, it’s that easy!
Now if you don’t have a handy dandy heart mold you can always use a cookie cutter. Spread out your treat mixture onto a greased cookie pan. Press a heart shaped cookie cutter firmly into the warm treat mixture. Doing this while the mixture is still warm will make a huge difference in how hard you have to work.
Whichever way you choose they will look great. These would be perfect for a school party as well. Let me know which way is your favorite.
Those look like a lot of fun for the kiddos!
