Easy I Spy Bottles – Perfect for Road Trips
Making your own I Spy Bottles has never been easier! I have put together a step by step tutorial so that you can make your very own. These I Spy Bottles are perfect for road trips, quiet play, classrooms, busy bags and so much more. The best part is, you can make them for kids of all ages! Use bigger trinkets for younger kids and smaller for the older ones.
You can make these I Spy Bottles using items you probably already have at home. Get creative with your trinkets! If you are having a party or working on a lesson, you could give them a theme. Use all animals and ask your kids to find the farm animals, the jungle animals etc. When taking a road trip, use items that can be found along the way. There are no rules!
The possibilities are truly endless with these I Spy Bottles. I can’t wait to see what version you come up with!
What’s Needed
- White Rice
- Clear Jars/Bottles – Use plastic for smaller kids
- Little trinkets {Suggestions} – Marble, penny, rubber band, balloon, button, eraser, dice, lego piece, safety pin, seashell, rock, or anything that is little enough to fit in the jars.
- Glue (Optional)
Fill your jars with a little bit of rice then add a few trinkets. Repeat this process until you reach the top.
End with the rice about an inch from the top. This will allow room for the rice and trinkets to shift around, making them searchable.
Get Crazy! Add tons of fun items for hours worth of seeking!
Add lid and tighten very tight. If toddlers will be playing with these, then I would recommend putting a little bit of hot glue or superglue on the lid before tightening it. We wouldn’t want these to come apart.
For little kids who can’t read or write yet, take a picture of the trinkets that will be placed in their jar and print it out. This way they can just circle what they see.
For older kids, have them write down what they see. By doing this, it should be more of a challenge since they won’t know what is in their jar yet.
You can even laminate the cards so the fun will never end! Use clear packing tape to so so or you can get these self laminating sheets to do the job.
