Upcycled Farmhouse Fruit and Veggie Stand DIY

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then I’m sure you are aware that farmhouse decor is all the rage. This fruit and veggie stand is what your kitchen has been missing.

I myself, and also obsessed with this trend. One day I hope to own an old farmhouse with beautiful charm somewhere in the country. Oh, and with animals, lots and lots of animals.

But since I am stuck in the city, for now, I have to fake it until I make it. Little by little I am transforming the interior of our house into a cozy wannabe farmhouse home. This upcycled fruit and veggie stand is my latest project and I couldn’t be more in love with it. I was given an old blanket rack that a friend of mine no longer needed and a light bulb instantly went off. Afterall, one woman’s trash is another’s treasure, right?

Here’s what you will need to replicate this farmhouse fruit and veggie stand:

  • Older style blanket stand
  • Chalk paint
  • Wire baskets (found mine at Walmart for $3.00)

Make sure your blanket rack is clean and dry. I chose to use a chalk spraypaint only because of all the little spaces on this particular rack, but any kind of chalk paint will do the job. Using small even strokes, paint the first coat of paint. Should be light and just enough to lay down a base coat.

Let the paint dry for 20-30 minutes and repeat the painting process. I had to do 3 coats but only because I kept missing the little places I couldn’t see from certain angles.

Once your farmhouse fruit and veggie stand is completely dry you can add your wire baskets. I bought six and only four would fit.

You can add little chalk labels to the front of the baskets as well for an extra added touch. I didn’t, but only because I didn’t have any. I might add them later on.

That’s it!

Your farmhouse fruit and veggie stand is ready to go.
