Honda Road Readers – App Review

Jan 1 by Leave a Comment

“Family road trips and entertainment go hand in hand like Anna and Elsa, tacos and salsa, and from now on—Honda and books. Thanks to the Honda Road Readers app.”

I’m pretty sure the age-old saying “Are We There Yet?” originated in the midst of a road trip, in the back of a station wagon that was most likely enormous and had fake wood paneling on its sides. You know, back when the only way of keeping occupied during a road trip was to look out the window—or sleep.

Things have radically changed since then. Most family oriented vehicles like our favorite vehicle of 2015—the Honda Pilot, feature exuberant technology like Blue Ray players, at least one if not two screens, wireless headphones, and even built-in window shades and heated rear seats. In other words, kids nowadays travel in more comfort and luxury than President Eisenhower did back in the fifties.

Still, allow me to speak from experience and say that, kids will always want what they don’t have. So even when they have an arsenal of entertainment options at their disposal, they will want something different. How about reading a book? But not a real book, because that would be so 10-years ago, omg.

There is a company out there you may have heard of called—Honda. Every year this company manages to sell a zillion cars across the globe, which means they know a thing or two about the people that spend time inside them, which comes in handy when designing features to combat road trip boredom and domestic fights.

Honda says the average family spends 208 hours per year in a car, and while that figure may vary depending on your specific lifestyle, I think we can all agree that kids could benefit from reading more books and watching less videos. That’s why Honda launched the super awesome Road Readers App, where you can turn Car Time into Story Time!

Honda Road Readers is a free, custom-created app developed for Apple and Android devices that provides free access to children’s audio books. As a Honda driver, I headed to the Honda Road Readers site, signed up using my VIN, and I was ready to rock—or should I say, read?

Honda Road Readers features free, full length books, like the classic Peter Pan and even the popular Hunger Games series. But if you’re not a fan of those, that’s okay, because there are literally hundreds of books to choose from. (Limited to 5 books in the first year)

Next time you set sail for the open road, don’t forget that your kids have a much better option for entertainment now. So download the Honda Road Readers app and eliminate the dreaded “are we there yet?”
