Spring Break Travel Guide: JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort
There are many great spring break destinations across the country, but the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa has quickly become one of our favorites in the south. It’s located about 30 minutes north of downtown San Antonio, on 600 of the most gorgeous acres in the entire Hill Country.
It’s that time of year again when the entire family is ready for a break — I know we are! The winter has been long and the kids have been cooped up in the house for far too long. Not to mention all of the test-taking the kiddos have been doing as their school year quickly comes to an end. Spring Break is the perfect time to pack up the family and head out for unforgettable fun and a lifetime of memories!
The Property
The San Antonio Hill Country Resort is the largest JW Marriott Resort in the world, having 1,002 guest rooms and 85 suites. Each room is fully decorated in Hill Country Chic and is more than accommodating for families. We were lucky enough to score two connecting rooms, which gave us the comfort and flexibility to give the little ones their space to have fun, but also the adults to unwind.
The double room was equipped with two double beds, an enormous flat-screen TV, a work desk and work chair, a love seat, and a spacious balcony with beautiful views of the Hill Country and the waterpark. The bathrooms were nothing short of breathtaking, with marble throughout, and all the amenities you expect from a first-class resort.
The connecting, our room, was a king suite with an attached living area. It featured a King Murphy bed, a sofa, a 65-inch flat-screen TV, huge dining room table that sat 6-8 people, and a separate “prep area” with a mini-fridge and microwave. The larger room also had a humongous balcony with an incredible view to the grounds. Oh, and last but not least, the king suite included a massive bathroom with a detached shower, a soaking tub, and gorgeous vanity area. Check out our FB Live stream from our recent stay in December!
Spring Break Fun
As comfy as the rooms are, I highly doubt you will be spending much time there. Especially when you have the River Bluff Water Experience in the “backyard”.
Put on your bathing suits and prepare for rapid river rides, exciting slides and a 1,100-foot lazy river. The JW Marriott features nine full acres of slides, pools for grown ups, pools for little ones, and even a sandy beach. Whether you’re looking for adventure or craving some relaxation, the River Bluff Water Experience should take care of it!
These are some of the amenities that only overnight guests can experience:
- Lazy river
- Water slides and rides
- Children’s pool
- Adult pool
- Private cabanas
- River Top Bar & Grill
- Beach-entry swimming pool
- Pavilion
- Whirlpool spa
- Fire Pit
While one parent is hanging out at the pool with the kids, the other can head over to the Lantana Spa for a well deserved pampering. JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country’s 26,000-square-foot Lantana Spa features 30 treatment rooms, including two couple’s suit. #DREAMY
Unfortunately, we were far too busy to enjoy any pampering this time, but I am fully looking forward to it on our next trip. Be sure to check out the full Lantana Spa brochure here!
The fun isn’t over yet! If you’re not much of a simmer, sunbather, or spa-addict, this magnificent property also offers two TPC golf courses, seven restaurant and lounge options, a nature preserve, fitness & yoga, and hiking/biking trails.
There’s a reason why it’s been named one of Travel + Leisure’s 500 Best Hotels in the world two years in a row! Obviously this is a pretty sweet place to visit during spring break, but the truth is that it’s an awesome place to visit any time of the year. Tip: like most popular destinations, book during the off-season for the best rates.
