Laundry Spot Remover Using Lemon Oil
I don’t have a lot of super “fancy” clothes, nor do my kids so I generally just wash everything together. Yes, I know. Darks are suppose to go with darks blah blah blah. I do my best. But, I am busy and as long as they are clean I’m happy.
I love using oils for as much stuff around the house as I can. Here is an awesome way to fight stains that magically appear on your family’s clothing. I found this awesome recipe and decided to try it out for myself. It works great! Here’s what you will need:
– 1/4 cup liquid castile soap (buy castile soap on Amazon)
– 1/4 cup liquid vegetable glycerin (buy vegetable glycerin on Amazon)
– 5-10 drops of lemon essential oil (I use Young Living oils only)
– 1 1/2 cups water
Mix all ingredients together in a glass spray bottle.
If using the essential oil, store the mixture in a glass container since lemon oil can disintegrate plastics. You don’t want a big mess… If you choose not to use the essential oil, it can then be stored in any sort of plastic bottle and of course works best with a lid that allows you to squirt it out.
To use:
Shake well each use and apply liberally to spots and stains. Lightly rub the mixture into the fabric with your fingertips.
As with almost all spot removers, this one works best if you treat the spot immediately and allow it to soak before tossing it into the washer. Sometimes I’ll even allow the item to soak overnight before washing it. Especially if I know it’s not going to be an easy fight..
And just to keep it real, I haven’t had such good results if the stain has already been washed first– but I would say you should still give it a try. What do you have to lose?
I haven’t had any issues with this mixture discoloring any of our clothing, but if it freaks you out, I would definitely test it in an inconspicuous area. Enjoy!
I pinned this! Do you know what the glycerine does?
how do you spray it if you cant use a plastic bottle. I haven’t seen a glass spray bottle
