This magnetic makeup organizer is the ultimate life hack you’ve been waiting for!
Life can get pretty crazy and more times than not, pretty chaotic! I am always searching for little life hacks that can help my daily routine and process run somewhat smoother and this magnetic makeup organizer is by far one of my favorites. This is the perfect do-it-yourself project that is a space saving way to get your counter or vanity completely clutter free. Oh, and did I mention you can customize them to any decor?
With a thrift store frame, some paint and a few magnets, you can make your very own magnetic makeup organizer as well! I found my frame for right around $4.00 and couldn’t be more happy with the way it turned out. The more interesting the frame, the better!
No more fumbling thru a dirty makeup bag looking for your eyeliner. Simply pop it off the magnetic board, use it and pop it right back on. This here is a game changer, folks!
Here’s what you will need:
- A picture frame of your choice
- Magnetic primer paint
- Magnetic tape or small magnets
- Hot glue
- Acrylic paints
- Mod Podge
- Fabric square (optional)
Here’s what you will do:
Remove the cardboard or canvas that came inside your frame. Thankfully mine came with a painted canvas so it made this DIY that much easier to do.
Paint the canvas with the magnetic primer using smooth even strokes. You will need to do 2-3 coats to get the magnetic strength to hold the makeup. I did 3 coats. It does dry pretty quickly.
If your picture frame didn’t come with a canvas you could paint the cardboard or glass as well. It will work just as well.
Let dry completely!
While that is drying, start painting your frame with the acrylic paint color of choice. Again, use light even strokes. You might need a few coats depending on the level of coverage.
I painted mine two tone using a teal acrylic for the outside and a gold metallic in the inside. I wanted colors that would pop against the black fabric.
Let you frame dry.
While that’s drying, you can go back to your dried canvas. Measure and cut the fabric to the size of your magnetic canvas. This step is optional. You could always use a colored paint or leave it as is.
Pull the fabric tight against the canvas and secure with hot glue. The tighter the better!
Place the magnetic canvas back inside the frame.
Secure the back once again using the hot glue all the way around the edges sealing it in place.
Now that your magnetic makeup holder & organizer is finished, you will need to glue magnets to the back of your cosmetics. The heavier the item, the more magnets you will need to use.
And you’re done! Hang this beauty in your favorite place to get ready and you will be forever organized. Well, maybe not, but at least your makeup will be!
