Creativity just got real! As parents or caregivers we have heard the phrase “I’m bored” far too often. Usually I will ask if they need help finding a chore to do to help them with their case of boredom. I am always amazed at how quickly that boredom bug zips right out of the window. In other cases I try to find fun FREE activities to do around the house. With all of the holiday baking that took place, I had some Karo Syrup leftover. Why not paint with it? It’s nontoxic so if they decide to munch on it, like my 2 year old, it’s not going to hurt them. Score!
For each color of paint, use 1/4 cup corn syrup and food color of choice. To make the mixing of color easier, microwave corn syrup for 15 to 20 seconds (just enough to warm), then stir in several drops of food color. Easy peasy! I like to save baby food jars and other small containers for things like this.
The paint is now ready to use. I recommend using a brush, only because the color might stain the skin. But it won’t hurt anything to finger paint.
