These easy-peasy popcorn cupcakes are everything your next baking session needs. They are cute, simple to make and even easier to eat.
The girls and I are always in the kitchen and baking up new things. These popcorn cupcakes are our latest creation and they came out so cute I knew I needed to share them with all of you. All of the little pieces of ‘popcorn’ are actually little marshmallows cut into pieces and dabbed with food coloring. Trust me, though they look super fancy, they are actually really easy to make. Try them out for yourself and let me know what you think.
In fact, these easy-peasy popcorn cupcakes are perfect for circus parties, movie night, school functions and so much more. Get ready to wow your friends and family…
Here’s what you will need:
- 6 Prepared Cupcakes (liners can be purchased here on Amazon)
- ½ Bag of Miniature Marshmallows
- Vanilla Frosting
- Yellow Food Coloring
- Paintbrush
- Water
Take scissors and cut a small slit about halfway through the side of one marshmallow. Then gently twist the marshmallow at the cut.
Next, cut another slit at the top of the marshmallow. It will split open and look like a piece of popped popcorn. Shape as needed.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 with the remaining marshmallows. It won’t take as long as it seem, I promise!
Add about ½ cup water to a bowl and add 8-10 drops of yellow food coloring. Make sure the color is pretty dark, so it’ll show up on the marshmallow. I mean, afterall, who doesn’t love butter on their popcorn?
With the paintbrush, paint on the yellow water (butter) on the marshmallow (popcorn). This does not have to be perfect, you don’t want to cover the whole marshmallow. Make them your own!
Frost each cupcake and place pieces of “popcorn” on the frosting. Enjoy or store in an airtight container!

I just love themed cupcakes and these adorable Polar Bear Paw cupcakes are one of my favorite desserts to make, especially when I am in a hurry. Not only do they look great but they are super easy to make. You can use the cupcake flavor of choice (mine is always chocolate) though I recommend using a light colored frosting so that the coconut “fur” stands out more.
