Using coupons and planning ahead are the absolute best ways to save on your grocery budget. Using and understanding your favorite grocery store cycles helps to maximize your savings. Even if you hate the idea of dragging your coupons with you to the store, you can save mega cash with if you fully understand the cycle. You can do it!

Planning ahead means making a list and stocking up when items are out of season and go on clearance. When an item is at it’s lowest is when you want to grab a stockpile. Often times you can find an item on clearance and have a coupon for it. Those sales are my favorite. Don’t forget about the items that hit their lowest price while IN season. Baking supplies are cheapest during the holidays, BBQ sauce in the summer, etc.

Most items are on sale every 4-6 weeks. The bigger brands usually twice a year. Save your coupons for the time of the cycle. Meat is the best thing to save money on. The price on meat is on the rise, so be sure to watch for sales. Most stores will have a “managers special” or something similar. Stock up! Place your meat in the freezer right away and extend the life. There are very few things that expire quickly, so buying a large amount when it’s at it’s lowest price is always best.

The best way to track your grocers sales is with a calendar and their weekly ad. Start off by marking which items are on sale in which week. A few weeks of doing this and you will begin to see a pattern. Seems like a pain, but I promise your wallet will thank you. And when in doubt ASK! Talk the the store manager or someone else willing to help you. You can do it! Start saving money at the store and spend it on things you actually want!
