Welcome Race Fans – Indy Art Project
There are many things that separate the legendary Indy 500 from other motor races from around the world, but perhaps the most noticeable one is—the people.
I’m not referring to the drivers, the race teams, the track personnel, etc. Of course they play a big role, but it’s the entire city of Indianapolis that plays the biggest role of them all, and the “Welcome Race Fans” launch party at the Indianapolis Artsgarden was proof of that.
In the presence of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway President, staff, and important members of the Indianapolis arts community, various versions of the iconic and traditional “Welcome Race Fans” banner were presented to a select crowd.
A total of 33 different interpretations of the racing slogan were created by 33 different Hoosier artists, and although some are quite “unorthodox”, others are downright awesome.
We had an awesome time checking out all of the artwork on display, and even Josephine got to pick her favorite one, which needless to say—it’s the one with the big-red-race car!
Check out our photos and let us know which one is your favorite!
