Our 6 Favorite Cars of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show

Why 6 you may ask? Because here at Life is Poppin’ we are normal people, not billionaire playboys. Normal people have families, pets and the occasional need to haul stuff from IKEA. Therefore we separated our cars into three categories. 
 
– Bonkers: Cars in this category tempt me to surrender my children in exchange for a clear title to one of these bad boys.
 
– Daily Driver: This category represents Americas broad middle class. Good looking, reliable and for the most part affordable.
 
– One-trick ponies: Nobody wants something that is only good for one thing… Oh wait, but we do! These are cars most of us would love to have, yet are too impractical for most.
 
Also, we unfortunately had to rule out the star of the show, the Ford GT didn’t make our cut because it’s not currently for sale or in production. Sorry!
 
BONKERS:
 
Estimated Price: $150,000

Imagine the precisely shaven faces and immaculate lab coats of the AMG engineers in Affalterbach. Nobody builds a more surgically precise car than AMG, but this curvy beast sporting a 4.0 liter V8 Biturbo looks different, dare I say… Passionate? I’ll tell you more when I chat with Nico Rosberg or when Mercedes lets me drive one. (holds breath)

Bentley Mulsanne Speed
Estimated Price: Bentley won’t tell me. (probably north of $400,000)

Let’s look past the mesmerizing fact that this 6,000 pound whale can rocket you from zero to 60mph in 4.8 seconds. That means this Bentley can pull up next to your beloved Porsche Boxter S and smoke you off the line while holding a board meeting in the backseat. Gorgeous exterior and even more gorgeous interior makes this a very desirable car.
 
 
DAILY DRIVER:
Estimated Price: $39,900

The king of hatchbacks is back. This 292hp turbocharged R will make you smile every time you pick the kids up from school or make a grocery run. A 6-speed DSG transmission along with 4motion will keep you facing the right direction on the road during winter, which is why I believe this car is literally the best car for the Midwest.

In my opinion the Ford Edge has always stood out as one of the best looking SUVs in its segment. This new generation dumps the swooshy and rounded look for sharper and better defined lines. All four trims of the Ford Edge look good, but the Titanium and Sport definitely add some character. Fords excellent Ecoboost engine and AWD make the new Edge an SUV I’d love to drive around town.

One-trick ponies:

Mercedes Benz S-Class Coupe
Estimated Price: $130,000

This car is good at ONE thing only. To “rocket you down the highway like a bat out of hell-while surrounded in a cocoon of luxury and safety-and making you look younger, skinnier and sexier than you actually are”. Phew.. That’s a crucial one thing to be good at. This is a ridiculously seductive car. Go buy one.

Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe or Spider
Estimated Price: $57,000 (coupe)

 It sits two, weighs 2,300 pounds and its turbocharged 4 cylinder engine produces 237hp. It’s assembled in Ferrari’s backyard and its engineered with one purpose in mind… Handling. It’ll succeed at hauling you and your hopefully sexy Italian passenger very quickly around a track.

We are currently awaiting to test one, so hopefully I can share more soon!
